The Goodman 10123529 Manual Reset Limit Switch is a genuine OEM high-temperature safety control for the AMVM970804CNAA variable-speed modulating gas furnace. This normally-closed switch opens the control circuit if the furnace overheats — most often from a blocked flue, failed blower, or flame rollout — shutting off the gas valve to protect the heat exchanger and cabinet. Because it is a manual-reset device, it will not automatically re-close after tripping: the technician must press the reset button, which flags that a real overheat event occurred and should be diagnosed.
Safety controls are one part you should not substitute. The OEM switch is calibrated to Goodman's exact trip temperature and mounting footprint. A generic switch with the wrong setpoint can nuisance-trip or, worse, fail to protect the heat exchanger. Always use the OEM part for safety components.
Moderate — remove two mounting screws and transfer the spade terminals. Best handled by an HVAC technician who can also diagnose the root cause of the trip. Shut off power and gas first. Typical install: 20–30 minutes.
