The Goodman 10123538 manual reset limit switch is a genuine OEM safety control for the Amana/Goodman AMES961005CNAA gas furnace. This normally-closed thermal switch opens the ignition circuit if it detects an overheat or flame-rollout condition, shutting down the burners to prevent damage or a fire hazard. Because it is a manual-reset device, it will not automatically close again after tripping — the operator must press the reset button once the fault is cleared, which is exactly what makes it a positive safety cutoff.
Safety limits are calibrated to a specific trip temperature. The OEM 10123538 is matched to your furnace's design cutout point, so it protects without nuisance tripping. Generic switches with a different set-point can either fail to trip early enough or shut the furnace down prematurely. On a safety device, do not compromise — use the genuine part.
Moderate. Shut off gas and power, disconnect the two spade terminals, remove the mounting screws, and swap in the new switch in the same orientation. About 15–20 minutes with basic tools. Because this is a combustion safety, have a licensed technician verify operation if you are unsure.
