The Goodman 20162906 M4 Primary Limit Switch is the factory OEM high-limit safety control for AMEC800403ANAB furnaces and compatible Goodman/Amana equipment. The primary limit monitors heat-exchanger temperature and opens the circuit to shut down the burners if the furnace overheats — protecting the heat exchanger and your home. A failed limit switch is a frequent cause of short-cycling and no-heat calls.
This OEM switch is calibrated to your furnace's factory trip temperature. Generic limits with the wrong set point can nuisance-trip (causing short cycling) or, worse, fail to trip when needed. Because this is a safety control, we recommend the OEM part.
Easy to Moderate — the switch is typically secured with two screws and spade terminals. Cut power at the breaker before servicing, photograph the wiring, and confirm the replacement is oriented the same way. If the switch keeps tripping after replacement, investigate airflow (dirty filter, blocked vents) before assuming a parts fault.
