The Goodman 10690402S interlock door switch is an OEM safety component for the Amana AMES960805CUAB gas furnace. This normally-open plunger switch sits at the blower compartment and closes only when the access door is fully seated, completing the electrical circuit. The moment the door is removed for service, the switch opens and cuts power to the furnace — protecting technicians from live wiring and the spinning blower wheel. A furnace that won't start after service is very often traced to this simple, inexpensive switch.
Because the plunger height and bracket position must line up exactly with the cabinet door, an OEM switch guarantees reliable make/break contact. Generic switches with the wrong plunger length may fail to close (furnace stays dead) or stay closed with the door off (defeating the safety). The factory Goodman part removes that guesswork and keeps the furnace to code.
Rating: Easy (2/5). Cut power at the disconnect, unplug the two wire terminals, remove the mounting screws, and install the replacement in the same position so the door depresses the plunger. Roughly 10 minutes. Confirm the door presses the plunger fully before restoring power.
