The Goodman B1226207 is a genuine OEM suction-line accumulator for the APH1436H41DB heat pump. Positioned on the suction line ahead of the compressor, the accumulator traps liquid refrigerant and meters it back as vapor — critical on a heat pump, where reversing-valve operation and defrost cycles can send liquid slugs toward the compressor. By preventing liquid slugging while returning oil at a controlled rate, the accumulator protects the compressor from valve damage and washed-out bearings. A rusted-through, restricted, or contaminated accumulator should be replaced whenever the sealed system is opened.
The OEM B1226207 is sized for this unit's refrigerant volume and oil-return needs, with the correct internal U-tube orifice. An undersized or mismatched accumulator can starve the compressor of oil or fail to hold enough liquid during defrost. Because it is a brazed-in sealed-system component, get it right the first time with the genuine part.
This is a sealed-system repair: recover refrigerant, braze in the new accumulator, replace the filter-drier, pull a deep vacuum, and recharge to spec. EPA 608 certification and proper equipment are required — this job should be performed by a licensed HVAC technician.
