The genuine Goodman 0161F00046 Condensate Drain Trap is a factory OEM replacement for the Amana/Goodman AMVM970803BNBA modulating condensing gas furnace. As a 97% AFUE high-efficiency unit, this furnace extracts so much heat that flue gases condense into acidic water. The drain trap collects that condensate, maintains a water seal that blocks flue gases from escaping into the cabinet, and routes drainage to the condensate line.
OEM vs. Generic: The trap's port locations, barb sizes, and internal baffling are specific to the AMVM97 drainage layout. The OEM 0161F00046 lines up with the factory tubing and preserves the correct water seal. Ill-fitting generic traps can leak, allow flue-gas spillage (a carbon-monoxide concern), or clog and trigger pressure-switch lockouts. Because this trap manages acidic condensate and combustion safety, the OEM part is strongly recommended.
Installation Difficulty: Moderate. Power down the furnace, remove the drain-compartment panel, disconnect the condensate hoses (label them), unclip or unscrew the old trap, and install the new one — then prime it with water to establish the seal before restarting.
