The Goodman 20171701 Condensate Drain Trap is a genuine OEM component for the AMH950453BXAF 95% AFUE condensing gas furnace. On high-efficiency furnaces, combustion produces acidic condensate that must drain away continuously, and the trap provides both the drainage path and a water seal that prevents flue gases from escaping into the drain line and vent system. A cracked, clogged, or algae-fouled trap is one of the most common causes of pressure-switch lockouts, water spilling into the cabinet, and no-heat calls on condensing furnaces.
The OEM trap matches the exact port layout, height, and internal baffle Goodman designed for this furnace, so the pressure seal and drain slope are correct out of the box. Universal traps often require re-plumbing and can hold the wrong water column, throwing pressure-switch readings off. For reliable condensate management, the OEM trap is the safe pick.
Easy (2/5). Plan on 20–30 minutes: power off, disconnect the condensate and pressure-switch tubing, unclip or unscrew the trap, and install the replacement, then prime it with water before restarting. Inspect and flush the drain line at the same time — a clean trap on a clogged line will just fail again.
