The Goodman 20269903 Auxiliary Limit Auto-Reset Switch is a genuine OEM safety component for the GMV81155CXBA and related GMV8-series gas furnaces. This auxiliary high-limit switch monitors temperature at a secondary location in the furnace and opens the circuit if it detects overheating — protecting the heat exchanger and blower assembly from thermal damage.
Because it is an auto-reset device, the switch closes again automatically once temperatures return to a safe range, so nuisance shutdowns from a restricted filter or temporary airflow drop don't require a manual reset. A failed or drifted limit switch is a common cause of short-cycling, no-heat calls, or a furnace that runs the blower but won't fire.
The OEM Goodman switch is factory-calibrated to the exact trip and reset temperatures specified for the GMV8 heat exchanger. Because this is a safety device, we strongly recommend OEM over generic switches — an incorrect trip temperature can either allow dangerous overheating or cause repeated nuisance lockouts.
Easy to Moderate. The switch mounts with two screws and uses push-on spade terminals. Shut off power at the breaker before servicing. Match the mounting location and orientation of the original. A basic HVAC service task for most technicians and experienced DIYers.
