The Goodman B4089343 #43 Burner Orifice (also called a spud) is a precision-drilled brass metering fitting that controls the exact amount of natural gas fed to each in-shot burner on your Goodman GMT070-3B furnace. The #43 drill size is calibrated to deliver the correct BTU input for this model. A damaged, corroded, or incorrectly sized orifice causes poor flame, incorrect firing rate, sooting, or nuisance lockouts.
Orifice sizing is not a place to guess. A genuine OEM Goodman #43 orifice guarantees the factory-specified gas flow and BTU input. Generic or mismatched orifices can over- or under-fire the furnace, producing carbon monoxide, incomplete combustion, or reduced heat output. Always match the exact drill number stamped on the part — never substitute a different size unless converting fuel type per manufacturer instructions.
Easy. Orifices thread into the manifold and remove with a properly sized socket or wrench. Shut off the gas supply and furnace power first, replace with the identical #43 size, and check for leaks with soapy water after reassembly. Order one per burner. If gas work is unfamiliar to you, use a licensed HVAC technician. Typical time is 10–20 minutes.
