Genuine OEM Goodman B1370188 is a 170°F primary high-limit switch built for the AMS80704BNA gas furnace and compatible Goodman/Amana models. Mounted on the heat-exchanger or burner bulkhead, the primary limit is the furnace's main overheat safety: it interrupts the gas valve if supply-air temperature climbs too high due to a dirty filter, blocked ducts, or blower failure, preventing heat-exchanger damage.
When a primary limit fails open or trips repeatedly, the furnace will lock out or short-cycle. Replacing it with the correct OEM switch restores reliable high-temperature protection and normal heating.
OEM vs. Generic: The genuine Goodman limit is set to the exact 170°F trip point and matches the original probe length, bracket, and terminals. A generic switch with the wrong temperature or geometry can nuisance-trip or fail to protect the heat exchanger — risking cracks and unsafe operation. For the furnace's primary safety limit, always choose OEM.
Install difficulty: Moderate — accessible to an experienced DIYer or technician. Cut power to the furnace, record the wire positions, remove the two mounting screws, move the terminals to the new switch, and reinstall. Confirm proper airflow and verify the switch is closed at room temperature after installing.
