The OEM Goodman B1370188 Primary Limit Switch is the main high-temperature safety control for the AMH80904BXAA gas furnace and compatible Goodman/Amana models. Mounted on the heat exchanger bulkhead, this normally-closed switch monitors supply-air temperature and opens at a 170°F cutout to de-energize the gas valve if the blower fails or airflow is restricted — preventing heat-exchanger damage and unsafe operating conditions.
Primary limits must trip at exactly the temperature your furnace was designed around. This genuine Goodman part carries the factory 170°F calibration and correct mounting bracket, so it seats flush against the heat exchanger for accurate sensing. Generic substitutes with the wrong cutout can cause premature lockouts or, worse, fail to trip when needed.
Rated Easy. With power and gas off, remove the two mounting screws, unplug the two spade terminals, and install the replacement in reverse — about 15 minutes. Confirm the part number against your unit's wiring diagram and run a full heat cycle to verify proper operation. When in doubt, have a licensed HVAC professional perform the repair.
