The genuine Goodman B1370187 primary high-limit switch is the OEM temperature safety control for the Goodman GMT140-5A gas furnace and compatible Goodman/Amana models. Rated at 160°F, this auto-reset limit monitors supply-air temperature at the heat exchanger and shuts off the burners if the furnace overheats — the usual cause being a dirty filter, closed vents, or a failing blower. When a primary limit fails, you may see short-cycling on the heat call or no heat at all.
The OEM B1370187 is factory-calibrated to the 160°F setpoint and uses the correct disc diameter and insertion depth for the GMT140-5A heat exchanger. Generic limits with the wrong setpoint or geometry lead to nuisance trips or unsafe operation. As a primary safety control, the genuine Goodman switch is the correct, reliable choice.
Easy — mounted with two screws and two spade terminals on the heat-exchanger panel. Shut off power, transfer the wires one at a time, and secure the new switch. If it keeps tripping, check the filter and blower before assuming the switch is bad.
Disconnect power before servicing. Do not bypass the limit. Consult a licensed technician if trips persist.
