The Goodman 20162903 primary limit switch is a genuine OEM safety control for GMH950703BXAE 95% AFUE gas furnaces. Rated to open at approximately 150°F, it monitors heat-exchanger temperature and shuts off the burners if the furnace overheats — protecting against cracked heat exchangers and fire hazards from restricted airflow, a dirty filter, or a failed blower. A tripped or failed limit switch causes short-cycling or no-heat lockouts; this OEM replacement restores safe temperature protection.
The genuine OEM Goodman limit switch is calibrated to the exact trip temperature and mounting-bracket dimensions specified for this furnace. Generic switches with mismatched set points or flange shapes can trip early, trip late, or fail to seal the mounting hole — a safety risk on a critical control. Always use OEM for high-limit protection.
Easy to Moderate. Power down the furnace, remove two mounting screws, transfer the spade connectors, and bolt in the new switch. Typical replacement is 10–15 minutes.
Disconnect power before servicing. If the limit repeatedly trips, have airflow and the heat exchanger inspected by a licensed technician.
