The OEM 20162903 primary limit switch is the main high-temperature safety control for your Goodman WFM18140S5DNCB furnace. Mounted on the heat-exchanger bulkhead, it monitors supply-air temperature and opens the burner circuit if airflow is lost or temperatures exceed its 150°F trip point — protecting the heat exchanger from cracking and preventing overheating. Unlike the manual rollout switch, this auto-reset control re-closes once temperatures return to a safe range.
Limit switches are defined by their exact trip temperature and mounting bracket geometry. The OEM Goodman 20162903 is set to the factory 150°F specification and drops directly into the original bracket. Generic substitutes with an approximate temperature rating can cause premature nuisance shutdowns or fail to protect the heat exchanger. OEM is the safe choice here.
Easy (2/5). Cut power to the furnace, remove the two mounting screws, transfer the wire leads, and secure the new switch. Ensure the sensing element seats in the airstream as originally positioned. Typical repair time 10–15 minutes.
Frequent limit trips often indicate a dirty filter or blower problem — inspect airflow before assuming a failed switch. Fitment help: info@nationalhvacparts.com.
