The Goodman 20162903 Primary Limit Switch is a genuine OEM high-limit safety control engineered for AMS950703BXAB furnaces. This normally-closed thermal switch opens at approximately 150°F to de-energize the gas valve and protect the heat exchanger from overheating when airflow is restricted, a blower fails, or a filter is clogged. When your furnace short-cycles, trips on high limit, or won't fire, a failed limit switch is a common and inexpensive culprit.
This is the factory OEM Goodman/Amana part — calibrated to the exact trip temperature and mounting footprint your furnace was designed around. Generic universal limit switches often require re-drilling brackets or field-verifying trip points, which risks nuisance trips or, worse, a switch that fails to protect the exchanger. For a UL-listed safety device, OEM is the recommended choice.
Two-wire plug and a single mounting screw. A DIY-capable homeowner can swap it in 15–20 minutes with a nut driver. Always shut off power and gas before servicing. If the new switch trips again immediately, investigate airflow (dirty filter, closed vents, failing blower) before condemning the part.
