The Goodman/Amana 20162903 primary limit switch is a normally-closed high-temperature safety control rated to open at approximately 150°F. Designed for the AMH81205DNAA furnace, it monitors heat-exchanger and plenum temperature and shuts off the burners if the furnace overheats — protecting against blocked airflow, dirty filters, or blower failure. When a limit switch fails open or drifts out of spec, you'll see short-cycling, no-heat calls, or the furnace running the blower continuously.
The Genuine OEM switch uses Goodman's exact temperature rating and mounting footprint, so it seats correctly and trips at the designed setpoint. Generic limits with the wrong trip temperature can cause nuisance shutdowns or, worse, fail to protect the heat exchanger. Safety controls are one component we always recommend replacing with OEM.
Easy to Moderate. Disconnect power, unplug the two spade terminals, remove the mounting screws, and install the new switch in the same orientation. Most DIY-capable owners can complete this in under 20 minutes.
Verify the trip rating stamped on the switch matches your unit before installing.
