The Goodman B1497204 is an OEM one-shot thermal fusible link rated to open at 144°C (approximately 291°F), used as an overheat safety cutoff in the GUP120-5A furnace and related Goodman/Amana equipment. When temperatures in the monitored area exceed the rating, the link's fusible element melts and permanently opens the circuit, shutting the unit down to prevent damage or fire. Because it is non-resettable, a blown link must be replaced — and the root cause of the overheat (restricted airflow, dirty filter, failed blower) should be corrected first.
This genuine Goodman link is calibrated to the exact 144°C rating the furnace's safety design requires. Substituting a link with a different trip temperature defeats the engineered protection — too high and it won't protect, too low and it will nuisance-trip. For a life-safety component, use the OEM part with the correct rating.
Easy (2/5). Disconnect power, note the wiring, remove the failed link, and splice or connect the replacement in the same location. About 20 minutes. Always diagnose and clear the overheat cause before restoring the unit to service.
Confirm the 144°C rating and part number B1497204 against your unit before ordering.
