Overview

This OEM ICP control transformer (part #1172028) converts 208/230V line voltage down to the 24V control voltage used by your thermostat, relays, and safety switches. At 40VA it carries the contactors, control board, and low-voltage accessories on the WAXL304A2. When it fails, the low-voltage circuit goes completely dead: a blank thermostat, a system that won't start, and contactors that never pull in. A humming transformer, a control fuse that blows on every reset, or a scorched smell at the panel usually indicate a shorted secondary or overload condition.

Installation Guide

1. Safety First — Disconnect power at the breaker and verify zero voltage at the transformer with a multimeter.
2. Access — Remove the unit service panel to expose the control box.
3. Document — Photograph all primary and secondary wire connections before disconnecting.
4. Remove — Label and disconnect the primary (line) and secondary (24V) leads, then unbolt the old transformer from its bracket.
5. Install — Mount the new transformer and reconnect the primary and secondary leads exactly per your photo.
6. Test — Restore power and confirm 24V across the secondary terminals and normal startup.
