Overview

This OEM control transformer (part number 1172028) steps down the 208/230V line voltage of your ICP WAPT424A1 system to the 24V control voltage required to power the thermostat, relays, gas valve, and control board. Rated at 40VA, it supplies ample current for the full low-voltage control circuit. When a transformer fails, the entire control system goes dead: the thermostat screen goes blank, the contactor and blower will not energize, and the unit appears completely unresponsive even though line power is present. A buzzing transformer, a blown low-voltage fuse that keeps tripping, or a melted/scorched smell at the control board are all classic signs of a transformer at the end of its life.

Installation Guide

1. Safety First — Disconnect power at the breaker and verify zero voltage with a multimeter before touching any wiring.
2. Access — Remove the service panel to expose the control box.
3. Document — Photograph all primary and secondary wire connections before disconnecting anything.
4. Remove — Disconnect the line-voltage primary leads and the 24V secondary leads, then unbolt the failed transformer from the control panel.
5. Install — Mount the new transformer, land the 208/230V leads on the correct primary taps, and reconnect the 24V secondary per your photo.
6. Test — Restore power and confirm 24V across the secondary terminals and normal control operation.
