Overview

This is the genuine ICP / Tempstar / Heil OEM control transformer (part number 1172028) for the WAPM244A2 heat pump air handler. It is a step-down transformer rated at 40VA that converts the high-voltage 208/230V line supply into the 24V low-voltage control signal used by the thermostat, contactor coil, and circuit board. Without a working transformer the entire control circuit is dead: the thermostat goes blank, the blower and compressor never receive a call signal, and the unit appears completely unresponsive even though line power is present. A failed transformer is one of the most common causes of a "no power to thermostat" service call.

Installation Guide

1. Safety First — Disconnect power at the breaker and verify zero voltage with a multimeter before touching any wiring.
2. Access — Remove the air handler service panel to expose the control area.

4. Remove — Disconnect the line-voltage primary leads and the 24V secondary leads, then unbolt the failed transformer from its bracket.
5. Install — Mount the new transformer, reconnect primary to 208/230V and secondary to the 24V control circuit exactly per your photo.
6. Test — Restore power, confirm 24VAC across the secondary terminals, and verify the thermostat and blower respond.
