It is a step-down transformer rated at 40VA that converts the high-voltage 208/230V line supply into the 24V low-voltage control signal used by the thermostat, contactor coil, and circuit board. When the transformer fails the entire low-voltage control circuit goes dead: the thermostat goes blank, the blower and compressor never receive a call signal, and the unit appears unresponsive even though line power is present. A failed transformer is one of the most common causes of a "no power to thermostat" service call.

Installation Guide
