Overview

This OEM VariTech setback thermostat (part number 1064095) is the low-voltage system control for the ICP Tempstar/Heil YH042GC heat pump. It manages the 24V calls for heating, cooling, fan, and the reversing valve, and supports programmable setback scheduling to save energy when the home is unoccupied. A failing thermostat produces erratic temperature control, missed or stuck calls, a blank or frozen display, or short-cycling. Because the thermostat is the brain of the comfort system, replacing a faulty one restores accurate staging and proper heat-pump operation.

Installation Guide

1. Safety First — Disconnect power to the air handler/furnace and verify zero voltage at the control board.
2. Access — Remove the existing thermostat faceplate from its subbase.
3. Document — Photograph and label every thermostat wire and its terminal before disconnecting.
4. Remove — Disconnect the wires and remove the old subbase from the wall.
5. Install — Mount the new subbase, reconnect each wire to the matching terminal per your photo, and snap on the thermostat.
6. Test — Restore power, configure for heat pump operation, and verify heat, cool, fan, and reversing-valve calls.
