Overview

This OEM ignitor electrode (part 1179966) provides the spark that lights the burners on the ICP / Heil / Tempstar RGS214HSAA0AAAA furnace. On a call for heat, the control board sends high voltage to the electrode tip, producing a spark across the gap to ignite the gas. A cracked ceramic insulator, eroded electrode tip, incorrect gap, or carbon fouling will cause weak or no ignition, lockouts, and intermittent no-heat complaints. Because the electrode sits directly in the burner flame path, it is a normal wear item.

Specifications

Spec Value
Part Number 1179966
Type Spark Ignition Electrode (direct spark)
Brand ICP / Heil / Tempstar / Comfortmaker
Function Burner ignition
Mounting Bracket-mount at burner assembly

Compatibility

Fits the ICP RGS214HSAA0AAAA and related ICP-family furnaces using the same spark-ignition burner assembly across the Heil, Tempstar, Comfortmaker, and Arcoaire brands. Match the bracket and electrode geometry to the unit you are servicing.

Installation Guide

  1. Safety First — Shut off gas and disconnect power, then verify zero voltage with a multimeter.
  2. Access — Remove the burner/service panel to reach the burner assembly.
  3. Document — Photograph the electrode position, gap, and ignition lead routing.
  4. Remove — Disconnect the high-voltage ignition lead and unscrew the electrode bracket.
  5. Install — Mount the new electrode, set the spark gap per spec, and reconnect the ignition lead.
  6. Test — Restore gas and power and confirm a strong, consistent spark and reliable burner ignition.

Signs You Need a Replacement

  • No spark or a weak, intermittent spark at the burner
  • Cracked or chipped ceramic insulator
  • Eroded or burned electrode tip / incorrect gap

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this Igniter fit my ICP RGS214HSAA0AAAA — Direct Spark Igniter | Ships Today?
Yes. This is the factory-specified OEM igniter for the ICP RGS214HSAA0AAAA — Direct Spark Igniter | Ships Today. It is a direct drop-in replacement that fits without modification. Always verify the model number on your equipment nameplate before ordering.
How do I replace the igniter on my ICP RGS214HSAA0AAAA — Direct Spark Igniter | Ships Today?
Difficulty: Medium (20–30 min)
Step 1: Turn off power and gas. Step 2: Open furnace panel. Step 3: Locate igniter near burners. Step 4: Disconnect two-wire plug. Step 5: Remove mounting screw. Step 6: Install new igniter — do NOT touch element with fingers. Step 7: Reconnect, close panel, restore power/gas.
My furnace won’t ignite. What part is bad?
Furnace won’t ignite after the draft inducer runs = failed igniter. The hot surface igniter should glow bright orange within 60 seconds. No glow = cracked/burned out. Weak glow = degrading. Average lifespan: 3–7 years. Replacement: $15–$40 DIY.
Is this igniter compatible with Bryant or Payne too?
Many ICP parts are cross-compatible with Bryant and Payne since all three brands are manufactured by Carrier Global Corporation. The same physical part is often used across brand labels with different model numbers. To verify: check your Bryant or Payne equipment service manual for cross-compatible part numbers, or email info@nationalhvacparts.com with your model number.
Should I use OEM or aftermarket for my ICP igniter?
OEM recommended for reliability and warranty compatibility. OEM parts match exact factory specifications for proper fit, performance, and safety. While aftermarket alternatives cost less upfront, the risk of improper fit and reduced lifespan usually makes OEM the better value long-term.
How fast does National HVAC Parts ship?
Orders placed before 3:00 PM CST ship the same business day. Standard delivery is 2–5 business days anywhere in the continental United States. Express shipping available at checkout. We ship from Houston, TX to all 50 states. 30-day return policy on all parts.
