Overview

This genuine OEM spark igniter (Part No. 1184216) is the ignition source for the ICP/Tempstar/Heil RGS180LDEA0AAAA gas furnace. On a heat call, the control board sends a high-voltage pulse to the igniter electrode, producing a spark that lights the burner gas. A worn, cracked, or fouled igniter — or one with a corroded electrode tip or damaged ceramic insulator — leads to ignition lockouts, delayed ignition with a rollout "whump," or no heat at all. Because the igniter also helps establish the flame the system proves, a marginal sparker can trip the furnace into lockout after several failed attempts.
