Overview

This is the OEM ignitor electrode (part 1179966) for the ICP / Tempstar / Heil RGS243HTAA0AAAA gas unit. The electrode produces the high-voltage spark that ignites the gas at the burner during the ignition sequence, and on many designs the same or a paired electrode senses flame to confirm a successful light. Over time the electrode tip erodes, cracks, or carbons over, and the porcelain insulator can crack from heat cycling — any of which causes ignition lockout. Typical symptoms are a unit that clicks/sparks but never lights, a furnace that locks out after several trial-for-ignition attempts, or short-cycling on flame loss.
