Overview

This OEM hot surface igniter kit for the ICP Tempstar Heil RGS121HFCA0AAA includes the igniter (part 1171306) and the matching igniter wiring kit (part 1188370). The hot surface igniter glows red-hot when the furnace control sends voltage to it, lighting the burners at the start of each heating cycle. These silicon-carbide and silicon-nitride igniters are brittle and degrade with every heat cycle, eventually cracking or losing the ability to reach ignition temperature. When the igniter fails, the furnace will go through its pre-purge and inducer sequence but never light, often ending in a lockout and a cold house. Including the wiring kit ensures the connector and leads are fresh, eliminating a common secondary failure point.

Compatibility

Designed for the ICP Tempstar Heil RGS121HFCA0AAA and related ICP-family gas furnaces using igniter 1171306 and wiring kit 1188370. Match both part numbers and the connector style to your existing igniter before ordering. Never touch the igniter element with bare fingers — skin oils shorten its life.

Installation Guide

  1. Safety First – Disconnect power at the furnace switch and breaker; verify zero voltage with a multimeter.
  2. Access – Remove the burner-compartment service panel.
  3. Document – Photograph the igniter mounting and wiring routing before removal.
  4. Remove – Unplug the igniter harness and remove the mounting screw; handle the old igniter by its ceramic base only.
  5. Install – Mount the new igniter without touching the element, then connect the new wiring kit.
  6. Test – Restore power, call for heat, and watch for a clean glow and reliable burner light-off.

Signs You Need a Replacement

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this Igniter fit my ICP RGS121HFCA0AAA – With Wiring | Ships Today?
Yes. This is the factory-specified OEM igniter for the ICP RGS121HFCA0AAA – With Wiring | Ships Today. It is a direct drop-in replacement that fits without modification. Always verify the model number on your equipment nameplate before ordering.
How do I replace the igniter on my ICP RGS121HFCA0AAA – With Wiring | Ships Today?
Difficulty: Medium (20–30 min)
Step 1: Turn off power and gas. Step 2: Open furnace panel. Step 3: Locate igniter near burners. Step 4: Disconnect two-wire plug. Step 5: Remove mounting screw. Step 6: Install new igniter — do NOT touch element with fingers. Step 7: Reconnect, close panel, restore power/gas.
My furnace won’t ignite. What part is bad?
Furnace won’t ignite after the draft inducer runs = failed igniter. The hot surface igniter should glow bright orange within 60 seconds. No glow = cracked/burned out. Weak glow = degrading. Average lifespan: 3–7 years. Replacement: $15–$40 DIY.
Is this igniter compatible with Bryant or Payne too?
Many ICP parts are cross-compatible with Bryant and Payne since all three brands are manufactured by Carrier Global Corporation. The same physical part is often used across brand labels with different model numbers. To verify: check your Bryant or Payne equipment service manual for cross-compatible part numbers, or email info@nationalhvacparts.com with your model number.
Should I use OEM or aftermarket for my ICP igniter?
OEM recommended for reliability and warranty compatibility. OEM parts match exact factory specifications for proper fit, performance, and safety. While aftermarket alternatives cost less upfront, the risk of improper fit and reduced lifespan usually makes OEM the better value long-term.
How fast does National HVAC Parts ship?
