Overview

This OEM hot surface igniter (part 606996, IGNITOR X) is the ignition source for the ICP/Heil/Tempstar WUGB130AG01 gas furnace. On each heat call the control board energizes the igniter, which glows red-hot to ignite the burner gas. Hot surface igniters are the most common furnace failure point — the brittle silicon carbide or silicon nitride element cracks or wears out over time. When it fails the furnace will not light: you'll typically see the inducer run and the gas valve attempt to open, followed by a lockout with no flame. A cracked, blistered, or no-longer-glowing igniter is the telltale symptom.
