Overview

This OEM hot surface igniter (HSI) is the ignition source for the ICP/Heil/Tempstar WPG4364090LKB1 packaged gas furnace. On each call for heat, the control board energizes the igniter, which heats to roughly 1,800–2,500°F and lights the burner gas. It replaces OEM parts 1186861 (control board igniter) and 1177663 (ignitor). The igniter is a wear item — its silicon-carbide or silicon-nitride element becomes brittle with each heat/cool cycle and eventually cracks or fails to reach ignition temperature. When that happens the furnace locks out and you get no heat, even though the inducer and gas valve are working normally.

Compatibility

Engineered as a direct-fit replacement for the ICP/Heil/Tempstar/Comfortmaker WPG4364090LKB1 packaged gas furnace and other units in the same family that originally shipped with OEM igniters 1186861 or 1177663. Match your existing part number and mounting bracket to confirm fit.

Installation Guide

  1. Safety First — Shut off gas and disconnect electrical power. Verify zero voltage at the igniter terminals with a multimeter.
  2. Access — Remove the furnace burner/service panel.
  3. Document — Photograph the igniter wiring and bracket position before disconnecting.
  4. Remove — Unplug the igniter harness, remove the mounting screw, and lift the old igniter out without touching the element.
  5. Install — Mount the new igniter, handling it only by the ceramic base, and reconnect the harness per your photo. Confirm proper gap/position over the burner.
  6. Test — Restore gas and power, then run a heat cycle and verify the igniter glows and lights the burners.

Signs You Need a Replacement

  • Furnace tries to ignite but never lights, then locks out
  • Igniter does not glow on a call for heat
  • Visible cracks, chips, or white spots on the element
  • Open circuit / no continuity across the igniter terminals

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this Igniter fit my ICP WPG4364090LKB1 — Furnace Ignition | Ships Today?
Yes. This is the factory-specified OEM igniter for the ICP WPG4364090LKB1 — Furnace Ignition | Ships Today. It is a direct drop-in replacement that fits without modification. Always verify the model number on your equipment nameplate before ordering.
How do I replace the igniter on my ICP WPG4364090LKB1 — Furnace Ignition | Ships Today?
Difficulty: Medium (20–30 min)
Step 1: Turn off power and gas. Step 2: Open furnace panel. Step 3: Locate igniter near burners. Step 4: Disconnect two-wire plug. Step 5: Remove mounting screw. Step 6: Install new igniter — do NOT touch element with fingers. Step 7: Reconnect, close panel, restore power/gas.
My furnace won’t ignite. What part is bad?
Furnace won’t ignite after the draft inducer runs = failed igniter. The hot surface igniter should glow bright orange within 60 seconds. No glow = cracked/burned out. Weak glow = degrading. Average lifespan: 3–7 years. Replacement: $15–$40 DIY.
Is this igniter compatible with Bryant or Payne too?
Many ICP parts are cross-compatible with Bryant and Payne since all three brands are manufactured by Carrier Global Corporation. The same physical part is often used across brand labels with different model numbers. To verify: check your Bryant or Payne equipment service manual for cross-compatible part numbers, or email info@nationalhvacparts.com with your model number.
Should I use OEM or aftermarket for my ICP igniter?
OEM recommended for reliability and warranty compatibility. OEM parts match exact factory specifications for proper fit, performance, and safety. While aftermarket alternatives cost less upfront, the risk of improper fit and reduced lifespan usually makes OEM the better value long-term.
How fast does National HVAC Parts ship?
Orders placed before 3:00 PM CST ship the same business day. Standard delivery is 2–5 business days anywhere in the continental United States. Express shipping available at checkout. We ship from Houston, TX to all 50 states. 30-day return policy on all parts.
