Overview

This genuine OEM hot surface igniter (PN 1177663) is the ignition source for the gas-heat section of the ICP/Tempstar/Heil WPG3364060LKC1 package unit. On a call for heat, the control board sends voltage to the igniter, which glows red-hot and ignites the gas at the burners. Hot surface igniters are brittle and degrade over thousands of heating cycles; the silicon carbide or silicon nitride element develops microcracks and eventually fails open. A bad igniter is the leading cause of no-heat calls — the inducer runs and the gas valve waits, but with no ignition the board locks out.
