Overview

The OEM hot surface igniter (part 1009524, IGNITOR/SENSOR HSP SK) ignites the burners in your ICP Tempstar Heil VNE125J20A1 gas furnace. On a heat call, the control board energizes this 120V silicon nitride element until it glows hot enough to light the gas, and the same surface proves flame in the HSP (hot surface proven) ignition system. Because the element is brittle and runs through thousands of thermal cycles, it is a frequent no-heat failure point — when it cracks or weakens, the furnace fails to ignite or drops into lockout.

Installation Guide

1. Safety First — Disconnect power at the furnace switch and breaker, and shut off the gas. Verify zero voltage with a multimeter.

4. Remove — Unplug the igniter connector and remove the mounting screw(s). Handle only by the ceramic base — never touch the element.
5. Install — Mount the new igniter with the element in the burner flame path, reconnect the plug, and reinstall the screw.
6. Test — Restore gas and power, run a heat cycle, and confirm the igniter glows and the burners light and stay lit.
