Overview

This is a genuine OEM hot surface igniter electrode (PN 1179966) for the ICP RGS243HEAA0AGAA gas furnace. On each heat call the furnace control sends line voltage to the igniter, which glows red-hot and lights the burners as the gas valve opens. Because it cycles to extreme temperatures every time the furnace fires, the igniter is one of the most common wear items in any gas furnace. The element is brittle and degrades over thousands of cycles until it cracks or no longer reaches ignition temperature. When that happens the furnace will try to light, fail, and lock out — leaving the home without heat. Typical symptoms include no warm air despite an active heat call, the inducer running but burners never lighting, a control board flashing an ignition-failure or lockout code, or a visibly cracked or whitened igniter element.

Installation Guide

4. Remove — Unplug the igniter harness and remove the mounting screw; handle the old igniter by the ceramic base only.
5. Install — Mount the new igniter without touching the element with bare fingers, then reconnect the harness.
6. Test — Restore gas and power, start a heat call, and confirm the igniter glows and the burners light on the first try.
