Overview

This OEM ignitor electrode (part 1179966) is the component that lights the burners in your ICP, Heil, or Tempstar RGS214HDCU4BAAA gas furnace. On each call for heat the control board sends voltage to the igniter, which heats until it is hot enough to ignite the gas as it flows across the burners. Igniters are a consumable wear item — repeated thermal cycling makes the element brittle until it cracks and stops glowing. When that happens the furnace runs its inducer and gas-valve sequence but never lights, leaving you with no heat.
