This OEM hot surface igniter (part 1171306) and matching igniter wiring kit (part 1188370) are the ignition components for the ICP / Tempstar / Heil RGS101HECB0AAA gas furnace. On a call for heat, the control board sends voltage to the igniter, which glows to roughly 2,000°F and lights the gas at the burners. Hot surface igniters are brittle and degrade over time — the silicon carbide or nitride element develops micro-cracks and hot spots from repeated heating cycles until it finally fails open and the furnace can no longer light.
