Overview

This is the OEM hot surface igniter electrode (part 1179966) for the ICP (Tempstar / Heil) RGS214HDHLBRETA gas furnace. The igniter glows red-hot when the control board energizes it at the start of a heat cycle, lighting the burners as the gas valve opens. Hot surface igniters are a wear item — the silicon carbide or nitride element becomes brittle and eventually cracks from thermal cycling, or it fails to reach ignition temperature.
