Overview

This is the genuine OEM ignitor electrode (part 1179966) for the ICP / Tempstar / Heil RGS213HRAA0AAAA gas furnace. The hot surface igniter is the element the control board energizes at the start of every heat cycle; it heats to a glowing temperature and lights the gas as the valve opens. It is the single most-replaced furnace part because the brittle silicon-carbide/nitride element degrades with every ignition cycle and eventually cracks or loses continuity.

When the igniter fails, the furnace typically goes through its full sequence — inducer runs, board calls for ignition — but no flame appears, then it locks out. You may see no glow at all, a weak or partial glow, or the furnace lighting only after several retries. Installation Guide

4. Remove — Unplug the igniter connector and remove the mounting screw(s); handle only by the ceramic base.
5. Install — Mount the new igniter (touching only the base), align it to the burner, and reconnect the plug.
6. Test — Restore gas and power, start a heat cycle, and confirm the element glows and lights the burners.
