The board is the brain of the furnace — it sequences the ignition cycle, monitors flame and safety limits, controls the inducer and blower motors, and manages the 24V thermostat signals. When the board fails, you typically see no response to a heat call, blower that won't start or won't stop, error/diagnostic LED fault codes, or intermittent lockouts.
