The board is the brain of the furnace: it manages the ignition sequence, sequences the inducer and blower motors, monitors the limit and pressure switches, controls gas valve timing, and runs the safety lockout logic. When the board fails, the furnace may not respond to the thermostat, blow cold air, lock out, or short cycle.
