It sequences the entire heat cycle — energizing the inducer, proving the pressure switch, powering the hot surface igniter, opening the gas valve, monitoring the flame sensor, and timing the blower on and off. It also enforces the safety lockouts that shut the furnace down if any step fails. When this board fails you may see no response on a heat call, an inducer that runs but no ignition, intermittent operation, or blower timing problems.
