Overview
This OEM defrost control board (part #1069364) is the brain of the outdoor section on your ICP, Tempstar, and Heil YL024GA1 heat pump. During heating mode it monitors coil temperature and elapsed run time, then initiates a defrost cycle to melt frost off the outdoor coil by reversing the refrigerant flow and shutting off the outdoor fan. It also coordinates the contactor, reversing valve, and fan motor timing. When the board fails, the heat pump can ice over in winter, lose heating capacity, run the auxiliary strips excessively, fail to switch between heating and cooling, or stop responding to the thermostat entirely. A failed defrost board often shows scorched relays, burnt traces, or no LED activity.

Installation Guide
- Safety First — Disconnect power at the disconnect and breaker, then verify zero voltage with a multimeter.
- Access — Remove the condensing unit service panel to reach the control board.
- Document — Photograph every wire harness, sensor lead, and plug position before disconnecting.
- Remove — Unplug the harnesses and defrost sensor, release the mounting standoffs or screws, and lift out the old board.
- Install — Seat the new board on the standoffs and reconnect each harness and the defrost thermostat/sensor exactly per your photo.
- Test — Restore power, run a heating call, and verify normal operation and, if needed, a forced defrost cycle.
