Overview

This OEM defrost control board (part number 1069364) is the brain of the defrost cycle on the ICP / Tempstar / Heil YG042GB1 heat pump. In heating mode the board monitors the coil temperature sensor and a timed interval, then initiates a defrost cycle: it energizes the reversing valve to briefly run cooling, stops the outdoor fan to melt frost off the coil, and can call for auxiliary heat to maintain indoor comfort. When this board fails, the heat pump may ice over solid, never defrost, short-cycle, or fail to switch between heating and cooling — robbing the system of capacity and risking compressor damage.

Installation Guide

1. Safety First — Disconnect power at the outdoor disconnect and verify zero voltage with a multimeter.
2. Access — Remove the condenser service / control panel to expose the board.
3. Document — Photograph every wire, plug, and the defrost-timing jumper position before disconnecting.
4. Remove — Unplug the harness connectors, release the board's mounting standoffs or screws, and lift it out.
5. Install — Mount the new board, reconnect all connectors, and set the defrost timing jumper to match the original. Reconnect per your photo.
6. Test — Restore power, run the heat pump in heating, and confirm normal operation and a proper defrost cycle.
