The contactor is an electrically-operated switch: when the 24V control circuit energizes the coil, the contacts close and pass line voltage to the compressor, condenser fan, or other high-current load. Two OEM options fit this model — part 1171554 (2-pole, 30A, 24V coil) and part 1172449 (3-pole, 40A, 24V coil). A failed contactor is one of the most common no-cool/no-heat service calls: pitted or welded contacts, a burned-out coil, or a chattering armature all prevent the unit from energizing.
