Overview

The contactor is the high-voltage switch that powers your ICP RHS183H0CA0AAAA heat pump. When the thermostat calls, the 24V coil energizes and the contactor closes its line-voltage contacts to send power to the compressor and condenser fan motor. This OEM set includes the 2-pole 30-amp contactor (part 1171554) and the 3-pole 40-amp contactor (part 1172449), both with 24V coils. Contactors are among the highest-wear parts in any condensing unit — every cooling and heating cycle pits and burns the contact points. Over time the contacts weld closed (the unit runs nonstop) or fail to make contact (the unit hums but won't start). Insects and corrosion under the contacts are a frequent cause of no-cool calls.

Compatibility

Direct-fit replacement for the ICP RHS183H0CA0AAAA heat pump and the ICP-built Heil, Tempstar, and Comfortmaker systems that use these contactors. Match the pole count, amp rating, and 24V coil to your original before installing.

Installation Guide

  1. Safety First — Disconnect power at the disconnect and breaker, then verify zero voltage across the contactor line terminals with a multimeter.
  2. Access — Remove the outdoor unit's electrical service panel.
  3. Document — Photograph all line, load, and 24V coil wiring before removing it.
  4. Remove — Move each wire one at a time to the new contactor, or label them, then unscrew the old contactor from its bracket.
  5. Install — Mount the new contactor, transfer line/load conductors to matching terminals, and reconnect the 24V coil leads.
  6. Test — Restore power and confirm the contactor pulls in and the compressor and fan start on a thermostat call.

Signs You Need a Replacement

  • Loud chattering or buzzing from the contactor
  • Compressor runs continuously and won't shut off (welded contacts)
  • Unit hums but compressor and fan don't start
  • Visibly pitted, burned, or corroded contact points

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this Contactor fit my ICP RHS183H0CA0AAAA — 2-Pole 30A & 3-Pole 40A 24V | Ships Today?
Yes. This is the factory-specified OEM contactor for the ICP RHS183H0CA0AAAA — 2-Pole 30A & 3-Pole 40A 24V | Ships Today. It is a direct drop-in replacement that fits without modification. Always verify the model number on your equipment nameplate before ordering.
How do I replace the contactor on my ICP RHS183H0CA0AAAA — 2-Pole 30A & 3-Pole 40A 24V | Ships Today?
Difficulty: Medium (30–45 min)
Step 1: Turn off breaker. Step 2: Open condensing unit panel. Step 3: Photograph ALL wiring on the contactor. Step 4: Label each wire with tape. Step 5: Disconnect wires and remove old contactor. Step 6: Mount new contactor, reconnect wires matching your photo. Step 7: Restore power and test.
My AC clicks but the compressor won’t turn on. What’s wrong?
Clicking from the outdoor unit without the compressor starting = worn contactor. The contactor sends power to the compressor. When its contacts are pitted, it clicks but can’t make solid contact. Look for: visible pitting/burn marks on the contactor face, intermittent operation, or buzzing.
Is this contactor compatible with Bryant or Payne too?
Many ICP parts are cross-compatible with Bryant and Payne since all three brands are manufactured by Carrier Global Corporation. The same physical part is often used across brand labels with different model numbers. To verify: check your Bryant or Payne equipment service manual for cross-compatible part numbers, or email info@nationalhvacparts.com with your model number.
Should I use OEM or aftermarket for my ICP contactor?
OEM recommended for reliability and warranty compatibility. OEM parts match exact factory specifications for proper fit, performance, and safety. While aftermarket alternatives cost less upfront, the risk of improper fit and reduced lifespan usually makes OEM the better value long-term.
How fast does National HVAC Parts ship?
