Overview

This OEM contactor is the electromechanical switch that energizes the compressor and condenser fan on your ICP RH5420422 system. When the thermostat calls for cooling, the 24V control coil pulls in the contacts and sends line voltage to the outdoor unit. Two configurations cover this model: a 1-pole 30A contactor (part #1280004) and a 2-pole 30A contactor (part #1280310), both with a 24V coil. Contactors are high-wear parts — the contacts arc and pit every time they close. A pitted, welded, or chattering contactor causes hard starts, a unit that won't shut off, or a compressor that won't run at all.

Installation Guide

1. Safety First — Disconnect power at the breaker and the outdoor disconnect, then verify zero voltage with a multimeter.
2. Access — Remove the service panel on the condensing unit to expose the contactor.
3. Document — Photograph all line, load, and 24V coil wiring before disconnecting.
4. Remove — Transfer wires one at a time (or label them), then unscrew the old contactor from its mounting base.
5. Install — Mount the new contactor and reconnect each wire to the matching terminal per your photo.
6. Test — Restore power, call for cooling, and confirm the contactor pulls in cleanly and the compressor and fan start.
