Overview

This OEM contactor is the power switch that energizes the compressor and condenser fan on your ICP RH5420362 system. A 24V control coil pulls the contacts closed when the thermostat calls for cooling, passing line voltage to the outdoor unit. Two configurations cover this model: a 1-pole 30A contactor (part #1280004) and a 2-pole 40A contactor (part #1280460), both with a 24V coil. Because the contacts arc each time they open and close, contactors wear out faster than almost any other component. A pitted, welded, or chattering contactor produces hard starts, a unit that won't stop running, or a compressor that won't start at all.

Installation Guide

1. Safety First — Disconnect power at the breaker and the outdoor disconnect, then verify zero voltage with a multimeter.
2. Access — Remove the service panel on the condensing unit to expose the contactor.
3. Document — Photograph all line, load, and 24V coil wiring before disconnecting.
4. Remove — Transfer wires one at a time (or label them), then unscrew the old contactor from its base.
5. Install — Mount the new contactor and reconnect each wire to the matching terminal per your photo.
6. Test — Restore power, call for cooling, and confirm the contactor pulls in cleanly and the compressor and fan start.
