Overview

This OEM 40VA control transformer (ICP part #1173691, supplied with terminal barrier #1178431) steps the 208/230V line voltage down to the 24V control voltage that powers the thermostat, control board, gas valve, contactor coil, and safety circuits in ICP, Heil, Tempstar, and Comfortmaker WPG-series packaged units. A 40VA rating provides enough secondary current to drive the full low-voltage control load with margin. When a transformer fails — typically from a shorted secondary, an overloaded control circuit, or a power surge — the entire 24V system goes dead: no thermostat display, no inducer, no ignition, and no cooling call. The included 24V barrier protects the wiring connections and keeps the low-voltage leads organized and insulated at the transformer.

Installation Guide

4. Remove — Label and disconnect the line-voltage primary and 24V secondary wires, then unbolt the failed transformer.
5. Install — Mount the new transformer, fit the 24V barrier, and reconnect primary and secondary per your photo, confirming the correct primary tap.
6. Test — Restore power and verify ~24V across the secondary and normal thermostat/control operation.
