It converts the 208/230V line voltage to the 24V control voltage that drives the thermostat, relays, contactor coil, and control board. When a transformer fails, the entire low-voltage control circuit goes dead: the thermostat loses power, the blower and contactor will not pull in, and the unit looks completely off despite having line power. Transformers typically fail from age, line surges, or a shorted secondary load.

Installation Guide

4. Remove — Disconnect the primary and secondary leads, then unbolt the transformer from its bracket.
5. Install — Mount the new transformer and reconnect the 208/230V primary and 24V secondary exactly per your photos.
6. Test — Restore power, confirm 24V across the secondary terminals, and verify the thermostat and controls energize.
