Overview

This OEM 40VA 24V control transformer supplies the low-voltage control circuit for the ICP / Tempstar / Heil RHS181H0CA0AAAA heat pump. The 24V secondary energizes the reversing valve coil (1172619), the DPDT changeover relay (1183814), and the DPST contactor relay (1178205) that direct the unit between heating and cooling. When the transformer fails, the entire low-voltage circuit goes dead — the thermostat loses power, the reversing valve won't shift, and the contactor won't pull in. A 40VA rating provides ample headroom for the combined coil and relay load on this chassis.

Installation Guide

1. Safety First — Disconnect power and verify zero voltage with a multimeter on both the line and 24V sides.
2. Access — Remove the service panel to reach the control box.
3. Document — Photograph the primary and secondary wiring before disconnecting any leads.
4. Remove — Disconnect the primary and 24V secondary leads, then unbolt the transformer from its bracket.
5. Install — Mount the new transformer, land the primary on the correct voltage tap, and reconnect the 24V secondary to the R and C terminals per your photo.
6. Test — Restore power and confirm 24V across the secondary and that the reversing valve and relays energize.
