Overview

The transformer steps line voltage down to the 24VAC control signal that powers the thermostat circuit, contactor coil, gas valve, and safety controls. The DPDT and DPST relays switch the higher-current blower and accessory loads from that low-voltage signal. When the transformer fails, the entire control circuit goes dead — no thermostat call reaches the unit and nothing energizes. A 40VA rating provides ample headroom for the unit's control loads.
